A Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a rough coated French rabbit hound. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, or PBGV, is a breed of dog of the scent hound type, bred to trail hares in bramble-filled terrain of the Vendée district of France. 

​

Their name is pronounced:
"Puh-TEE Bah-SAY Gree-FHON VON-day-uhn"

The name describes the breed characteristics:

• Petit = small
• Basset = low to the ground
  
• Griffon = rough coated
  
• Vendeen = the region in France breed originated
